Ganesha Idol Coloured 6 inch

The painted Pillaiyar the children picked, pointing at the gold on his crown.

• What: Painted Ganesha (Pillaiyar) idol
• Size: About 6 inches
• Made from: Natural clay, painted, no plaster of Paris
• Best for: Vinayagar Chaturthi pooja and home visarjan

What it is

This six-inch Pillaiyar is moulded in natural clay and painted by hand in pink, gold and green, with more detail in the crown, the jewellery and the seat than the smaller coloured idol. There is no plaster of Paris, and the paint goes straight onto the clay.

Like the unpainted idols, the clay softens and breaks down in water, so visarjan can be done at home in a bucket or tub. Each one is painted separately, so colours vary a little from the photo. Choosing between idols? Coloured 6 inch for detail; coloured 4 inch for a small shelf; the natural clay mukut or pagdi idols if you want him unpainted.

Tip: Leave him in the foam shell until the day. The colours run if the clay gets damp early.

Goes well with: Sri Durga Vinayagar Kit, Vinayagar Umbrella Paper, Sohum Modak Rice Flour
