What it is

Bru was launched in 1968 and, according to Hindustan Unilever, was India's first coffee-chicory instant coffee. Its coffee comes from South Indian plantations.

This is that original style: instant coffee blended with chicory, so the cup is darker and slightly bitter, closer to the filter coffee most South Indian homes drink than a plain instant. The 40 g jar is the size to try it, or to keep in a desk drawer at work. Choosing between Bru coffees? Instant for coffee with chicory; Gold for pure coffee; Green Label for filter decoction.

Tip: Heat the milk until it just starts to froth, then pour it into the cup from a height for a foamy top.
