What it is

Amul was founded in 1946 as a dairy co-operative in Anand, Gujarat, and it is marketed by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, owned by millions of milk producers. The name is tied to Verghese Kurien, known as the Father of the White Revolution in India.

This is Amul's ghee in a 1 litre pack: golden, grainy when it sets, with that toasty smell the moment it melts. It goes on hot rice with paruppu, into pongal, and into every sweet where the ghee should be tasted. Choosing between ghees? Amul for an everyday cow ghee; GRB for the South Indian kitchen favourite; Heera butter ghee for a North Indian style.

Tip: Warm a spoon for a few seconds before pouring it over rice. Grainy ghee melts back to gold straight away.
