What it is

Tata Salt was launched in 1983 as India's first national brand of packaged iodised salt, and it is known by the tagline 'Desh Ka Namak', the nation's salt. It is vacuum-evaporated and made by Tata Consumer Products.

It is fine, free-flowing and very white, so it dissolves quickly into dal, sambar, batter and dough and measures evenly by the spoon. Choosing between salts? Tata Salt for everyday cooking and the table; Anil crystal salt (kal uppu) for pickles and brine; Heera Himalayan salt for a pink salt at the table.

Tip: Salt idli and dosa batter just before fermenting, and stir it in well with your hand.
