What it is

Tata Salt was launched in 1983 as India's first national brand of packaged iodised salt, and it is part of Tata Consumer Products, the Tata Group's food and beverage company. This pack is Tata's coarse crystal salt.

Crystal salt is the big-grained kind, kept in a jar by the stove in many South Indian homes. It is used whole in pickles and brines, where it dissolves slowly, and pounded or dissolved for everyday cooking. Choosing between salts? Crystal for pickles, brines and batter; fine table salt for sprinkling; Himalayan pink salt for the table.

Tip: Dissolve a spoonful in a little warm water before stirring it into dosa or idli batter. It mixes evenly.
