What it is
Gopuram was started in Chennai in 1945 by Sri Y. V. Seshachalam, and is best known for its kumkum, alongside turmeric, vibuthi, sandal and sambrani. Kasturi manjal is a different plant from the turmeric in your sambar. It is wild turmeric, paler and more fragrant, and it was never meant for the kitchen.
It is the powder that was mixed to a paste for the bath, at nalangu and before functions. Choosing between Gopuram powders? Kasturi manjal for the face paste; the small turmeric tin for pooja and kumkum; plain cooking turmeric only for food.
Tip: Mix only as much as one use needs. Leftover paste dries hard and stains the bowl.
Goes well with: Chandan Powder, Gopuram Kumkum Small Tin, Parachute Coconut Oil
