What it is

Hindustan Unilever calls Brooke Bond 3 Roses the number one tea brand in South India, blended to suit a South Indian preference for a strong, quick-brewing cup. The blend is made from Assam tea leaves.

Being a dust grade is why it gives up colour so fast: two minutes in boiling water and the pan is already dark enough to take milk. A leaf tea will not do that in the time before work. Choosing between the teas? 3 Roses for strong milk chai, Chakra Gold for a lighter leafy cup, Everest Masala Tea when the spices are already ground in.

Tip: Two to three minutes on the water is plenty. Longer only turns it bitter, not stronger.
